Easy 8 Step Guide for Creating and Recording your Podcasts

#1 Have a seat at your desk and take out a physical or digital Notebook labeled “My Podcasts”

#2 Brainstorm and write down 52 topics.(that's 1 double sided sheet of paper and podcasts for 1 year).

Here are some memory joggers:

  • Have a look at your website with fresh eyes. Look at your products and services. I bet you can pick 10 podcast ideas and topics from your website. Write those down.

  • Go to your Facebook page and click on the photos and go through your old posts. Write down ideas.

  • Think about some recent conversations you’ve had and advice you have given. Write those down.

  • Find your testimonials. See if you can compile all of them in one place. Testimonials make great podcasts.

  • Find articles and blogs you’ve written in the past. Those make great podcasts.

  • Need more ideas? Reach out to me. I’m sure I can come up with 5-10 ideas for your next podcast.

#3 Now that you have 52 (or more) topics written down, jot down some keywords around those topics….those things that come to mind when you think about the topic and that you want to mention in your podcast.

Put that aside and let it percolate.

#4 Start a new page. Here you will write down your introduction and your call to action. These are only 15 seconds long.

  • Intro example:

    • “This is ______. I’m the owner of __________. I’m passionate about __________.”

    • "Welcome! My name is _______. I'm the owner of _______. I help you _______________."

  • Call to action example:

    • “If you’d like to learn more, please join my Facebook group called________”

    • "Please follow my FB page called _________"

    • "Connect with me via my website at www._______.com"

    • "Sign up for my free _________ at___________"

#5 Come back to your content. Will you be recording on the fly? Do you feel more comfortable reading from a script?

Depending on your answer you may want to write down important concepts to cover or write out a whole script (can  you see how old articles make great podcasts?)

#6 Choose your equipment to record.

  • Yes, you can use your smartphone to record.

  • Yes, you can record while you are with your horse

  • Yes, you can get fancy and use an expensive mic

#7 You now have your equipment, your intro, your call to action, and topic you want to talk about. Time to start recording. Remember everything takes practice!!!! Don’t expect to get it right the first time.

And sometimes it is easier to talk about something when you have someone to talk to. In which case, have your spouse/partner/friend ask you a question which you then answer while recording.

#8 Send me your recording. You can set up a Dropbox or Google Drive folder for your recordings. Send me the link. You can also send me your recording via email or FB messenger.
